Press Release: January calls on State of Arizona to join other states in legal fight to save DACA

Updated: Mar 1, 2018

Statement by January Contreras

“I worked at the Department of Homeland Security, and I've been a lawyer to DACA

youth. We've seen DACA in action for five years now, and its fruits - unified families and

college bound teenagers - are as American as you can get,” said Contreras.

“Many of the Federal laws cited in this lawsuit were expressly created to protect

individuals from tyrannical or unconstitutional government acts. With the liberty of

28,000 of our state’s inspiring young people at risk, this is a legal fight that Arizona

should be a part of.”

“This is not just the political issue of the day. This is about lives and liberty. As Attorney

General for Arizona, I would bring together Arizonans from all political persuasions and

backgrounds – including grassroots, faith-based, and business – to champion this lawsuit and work to protect Dreamers from deportation.”

“We have a legal and moral duty to stand up against this injustice,” concluded
