Phoenix – Today, the campaign finance reform group, End Citizens United, endorsed January Contreras for Arizona Attorney General -- one of only nine statewide-level endorsements made throughout the country by the organization. End Citizens United was formed in response to the Citizens United Supreme Court decision, to elect campaign finance reform champions, and end unlimited and undisclosed money in politics.
"ECU is proud to endorse January for Arizona Attorney General. As a former prosecutor, she is committed to ensuring everyone plays by the same rules. State leadership is critical to ending the influence of dark money in elections and January will be a critical part of the fight to ensure Arizonans have a government that works for them and not the special interests," said ECU President Tiffany Muller.
January Contreras, a former government fraud prosecutor, said "I stand for accountability and transparency, and I will use all of my investigative and prosecutorial powers to end the chokehold that dark money has on Arizona state government. The current Attorney General, right now, is defending dark money donors - and their right to remain secret - in an out-of-state courtroom. I'm on the side of Arizonans, not dark money. We've had enough of this unlimited flow of money working against fully funded public schools, access to affordable health care, and strong consumer protections. I am proud to have the endorsement of End Citizens United because it reflects what I will work for every day -- ensuring that everyone has to play by the same rules.”
