Phoenix – Today, January Contreras called out Mark Brnovich, current Attorney General, for defending dark money donors in an out-of-state lawsuit. On the same day that Brnovich released a campaign ad stating “...you don’t get a pass if you’re wealthy or well-connected”, judges ruled against his defense of the big donors who want to control our state and maintain secrecy. Brnovich has Arizona in a lawsuit defending Americans for Prosperity, a “non-profit”, pro-private school voucher and pro-dark money organization connected to the Koch brothers.
January Contreras, an experienced prosecutor and Democratic candidate for Attorney General, questioned his priorities, “Now more than ever, we need state leaders that are looking out for the people of Arizona. The fact that our Attorney General is so beholden to dark money donors that he's willing to use our taxpayer money to defend them tells Arizonans everything they need to know,” Contreras stated. “Brnovich says one thing and does another. As Attorney General, I will be committed to using every moment in office to put the people of Arizona first, not the interests of dark money donors. It's the only way to bring back checks and balances to our government.”
January Contreras is a former Deputy County Attorney, Assistant Attorney General, and an experienced criminal prosecutor and a founder of a non-profit for abused and vulnerable kids and youth. She’s running for Attorney General to bring accountability and transparency back to our government, and to put the safety, financial security, and well-being of Arizonans first.
